Subject: Re: [MUSEUM-L] [AASLH Hist House Mus] Fake Information Being Distributed About Historic Sites & Museums

The tearing down or removal of statues of President Grant, Francis Scott Key, and President Roosevelt and so many others, is of no concern? The destruction of so many of our important American monuments is OK?
We are (supposedly) museum professionals. It is part of our job to catalog, preserve and protect our American heritage. When we allow a bunch of poorly educated, history ignorant, leftist haters, run in groups and take it on themselves as to what is allowed and what is 'appropriate', we as Americans are not doing our job, and we as the preservers of our history are not doing our jobs.
It is a shame what is happening to our nation now. I'm quite sure that in some future time (if we even have a future as a country) the historic record will look back to these times as being a very dark era of mob rule, incipient fascism, and just plain crazy behavior.
We as a nation has done great and wonderful things for all peoples, no matter their race, religion, creed, gender or politics. We have our faults. We can do better. And we are doing better. There has never in the history of the world been a place or time of greater freedom and equality. And yet, in spite of all the good we have done and are creating, we for some unknown reason handing over to the 'barbarians' our freedoms. It is incredible to watch. It is a shame it is happening.

This load of garbage was posted in a historic archaeology social media group.  As professionals in the museum field, we need to keep an eye out for bad apples causing problems like this and nip them in the bud. We are long past the point where we can "just ignore it and it will go away."
" I live in Williamsburg VA. Known as the Historic Triangle set between Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg, and Jamestown. They are vandalizing the Yorktown Battlefields (Revolutionary War) and trying to defund and get rid of Colonial Williamsburg. They are destroying all the historic sites for Christopher Newport which predates American Slavery. They are destroying everything from historical houses, markers, graveyards, and even earthworks.Luckily, Jamestown is too far out to really mess with but they have also had graffiti spray painted all over.Don’t pretend its just about statues and the confederacy. The idiots doing it have no concept of history and cant tell the difference between the different time stages, wars, or people. In the media all you see is the removal of a statue. Its much different when you live in the area they are completely trampling just because they want to destroy anything they can."
