Dear museum collegues,

In a time and age where we are facing an enormous growth in infromation
flow, what role can museums play ? Are they users of the world wide
information networks ? Or can they be producers of information on the new
communication networks ? And when acting as producers, what level of quality
do museums want to achieve ? And what are financial and organizational
consequences of such a role ?

The CIDOC annual conference will take place at Nuremberg (Germany) from 7 -
11 September 1997.

The conference aims to discuss a subject that should be of great concern to
many museum professionals: Quality and Documentation. Several aspects of
this issue will be discussed. We will try to find (some) answers to
questions like:
- are museums to aim for quantity in information or quality ?
- can standards play a role in improving quality ?
- is there such a thing as 'cyberquality' ?
etc.

Those of you that are interested in these kinds of issues are very welcome
to join CIDOC at its annual meeting in Nuremberg.
Details and booking forms can be found at:

www.cidoc.icom.org

at the section on CIDOC conferences, Conference 1997.

A booking form can be sent by fax to:
