Dear museum collegues, In a time and age where we are facing an enormous growth in infromation flow, what role can museums play ? Are they users of the world wide information networks ? Or can they be producers of information on the new communication networks ? And when acting as producers, what level of quality do museums want to achieve ? And what are financial and organizational consequences of such a role ? The CIDOC annual conference will take place at Nuremberg (Germany) from 7 - 11 September 1997. The conference aims to discuss a subject that should be of great concern to many museum professionals: Quality and Documentation. Several aspects of this issue will be discussed. We will try to find (some) answers to questions like: - are museums to aim for quantity in information or quality ? - can standards play a role in improving quality ? - is there such a thing as 'cyberquality' ? etc. Those of you that are interested in these kinds of issues are very welcome to join CIDOC at its annual meeting in Nuremberg.
