EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Preparator The Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA) seeks a full-time Preparator. The position reports to the Museum Registrar and opens January 1, 2000. Responsibilities include: All aspects of exhibition preparation to include collaboration with curatorial staff, gallery space planning and management, installation planning and execution, supervision of professional and volunteer installation crew, preparation of artwork including matting and framing, fabrication of exhibition components, training and supervision of interns, materials purchasing, budget planning and management, and exhibition de-installation. Assists with scheduling and supervision of facility maintenance support and custodial services, maintenance of emergency, safety and disaster plans, and management of on- and off-site general storage. Required Qualifications: Minimum three years relevant experience; knowledge of museum operations and expertise in fine art handling procedures; experience and expertise in manual design techniques, most importantly matting and framing; knowledge of construction, carpentry and electrical skills; computer literate (MAC preferred), superior interpersonal and problem solving skills; knowledge of budget planning; must be a team player. Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of art conservation issues and photographic processes.
