The Birmingham Museum of Art seeks a Chief Preparator.  Duties include, but
are not limited to, supervision and training of a full time staff of 4-5
preparators; installing and maintaining permanent collection galleries and
temporary exhibition spaces; working with the exhibition designer to install
exhibitions, didactics, and graphics.  Qualifications include a minimum of
five years preparation experience; strong organizational, communication, and
personnel skills; ability to work with other staff members at all levels;
training or experience in professional museum archival
preservation/maintenance techniques and procedures; knowledge of the latest
packing and crating techniques; the ability to interpret construction
drawings; experience with power tools; knowledge of the physical properties
of art, conservation techniques, and construction materials; ability to
develop and manage budgets.  Must have prior supervisory experience with
proven management skills and the ability to communicate and work with a
diverse constituency.  A working knowledge of computers is a plus.
Experience with and knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and guidelines. The
ability to lift weights up to 100 pounds when needed with assistance.
