Genesee Country Village & Museum has spent two decades documenting and growing plants that were used in the Northeast US during the 19th Century. This program has always been conducted with the support of Harris Seeds of Rochester, NY. Harris Seeds have been in business for over 100 years and thus, have been wonderful partners. In 1998, the Genesee Country Village & Museum heirloom seed program was expanded to be marketing in Harris Seeds catlogue. The seeds are labled with the museum's name printed on the seed packet and a brief description and the date of the plant is provided for the purchaser. The museum and Harris are interested in knowing if there are other institutions who may be interested in participating in our partnership. The concept is as follows: (partner refers to your institution) * Camera ready information would be provided for distribution by partners. * Orders would be taken by the partner * Orders would be sent to us and Harris would fill the orders (possibly an 800 number could be provided) * Partner would get a percent of sales (5 to 10% range) and information about the seeds and how they might be used in their site. * Partner could also sell directly in their retail venues * All seeds would be sold with the partner's name on the packet This program has been successful for Genesee Country Village & Museum. This is one way we believe that the interest in heirloom seeds can be expanded. For further information, contact: Emily Conable or Douglass W.
