THE ACADEMY OF NATURAL SCIENCES OF PHILADELPHIA JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT VICE PRESIDENT FOR THE BIODIVERSITY GROUP The Academy of Natural Sciences, an international museum of natural history operating since 1812, which undertakes research and public education that focus on the environment and its diverse species, seeks an individual with outstanding leadership skills to fill the role of Vice President for the Biodiversity Group. This position is an extraordinary opportunity for a senior scholar with an outstanding track record in scientific leadership and research to devote his or her effort to directing programs of recognized excellence at a revitalized and expanding institution. The Vice President for the Biodiversity Group will develop a vision for systematic biological research, and related outreach and service activities at the Academy and will lead Group programs involving the collections and collection-based research. The Biodiversity Group (and the Library which falls within the Group) encompass 21 million plant and animal specimens, nearly 200,000 volumes, a staff of over 40 (including 10 Ph.D. scientists) and a budget of nearly $3 million. The position reports to the President of the Academy. Preferred candidates will come from a background in systematics with a broad understanding of ecological science and fifteen years of research experience and seven years of management (not necessarily serially). However, candidates may be considered from a wide range of backgrounds. A Ph.D., and a track record of successful fundraising are required. Salary commensurate with experience.
