It seems to me that something that is improperly framed should be unframed and rehoused in an appropriate manner if possible. It is not good for objects, textiles, or paper items to be left in mounts, frames, or situations that may put stress on the item, or encourage degradation. We have just acquired a 19th century sampler which was not properly framed and are interested in finding out how to best preserve it. Also, have you put out your request to the conservation list?
