If the children are using the artifacts, and they are not accessioned
objects, would it be too much to ask not to label them? Are these prop
materials? Do these objects need to be permanently labeled? If they do
not, then perhaps keeping track of it all is just a matter of inventory,
with items you started off in the morning being there at the end of the
day.

Our registrar and I would suggest that you labe these objects permanently
so that the labeling doesn't come off when you wash it. Label them
permanently with "permanent ink" only if they are not accessioned objects
in the collection. I am assuming they are not accessioned because you
are allowing children to handle them.

Good luck, and if you need any other clarifications, please do not
hesitate to e-mail me directly.

Adio!
