The Cultural Resource Management Program at the University of Victoria is offering the following immersion course for heritage professionals from March 4 - 13, 1998: THE FABRIC OF HERITAGE BUILDINGS To preserve heritage buildings, it is necessary to understand the construction techniques and materials which give them their special character. This course examines building styles and structural elements encountered in historic wood and masonry buildings, and develops your knowledge of: o research, investigation, and recording o planning, organizing, and documenting the conservation process o approaches to preservation and adaptation o upgrading tocontemporary building and seismic standards o maintenance cycles o disaster planning A variety of architectural resources and conservation projects in the Victoria area provide a focus for case studies and field work.
