We asked several questions in two surveys last fall and winter at the Canadian Museum of Civilization to assess visitors' use of WWW sites and the subsequent impact on visiting. The respondent population, strongly skewed towards the older age groups, had a surprisingly high use of the Internet, with 27% reporting some degree of use. However, a much smaller proportion regularly "visited" museum sites and less than 1% of respondents reported that an electronic visit to CMC had inspired them to pay a physical visit. We were not discouraged by this, as our site was then both small and new. We'll replicate the questions in uture studies and monitor impact, which we think will change with some rapidity.
