According to an NPR story that aired this morning, P-Trak derives its personal information from credit records, while not divulging the records themselves. While you can't type in someone's name and get their social security number, you can do the reverse--enter a random SSN and get the name, birthdate, phone number, address, previous addresses, etc., that goes with it. And if you have an unlisted phone number for whatever reason--well, according to P-Trak, it isn't unlisted anymore. Apparently the flood of phone calls to Lexis shows no signs of abating, and the company is considering discontinuing the service. ______________ Visit SITES on the Web! http://www.si.edu/organiza/offices/sites/homepage/start.htm Nicole M.
