BRIEF EXHIBITION DESCRIPTION: FULL DECK ART QUILTS explores individual artistic expression within a theme of near-universal appeal: the creative interpretation of a full deck of playing cards by 54 contemporary art quilters/quilting partnerships. The resulting pieces - 52 cards and 2 jokers - illustrate the vitality and diversity of contemporary art quilting. Each quilt, though a uniform size and shape, reflects the unique style and technique of the artist and is indicative of work these artists are creating in other formats. Because the playing card is such a common object, exhibition visitors will be intrigued by interpreting which card each quilt represents, while viewing the work of some of America's most significant art quilters.
