Libraries (or whatever we may call them) have had a great deal
of experience with compact shelving. You might ask around
amongst them.

According to Kate Roberts:
>
> The Museum of New Zealand is in the process of specifying compacting
> shelving designs for its new building.
> We have got to a division of opinion on the various merits of a crank handle
> vs a wheel for driving the shelving units.
> If anyone has had experience with both and can give me technical
> information on the comparative gearing possibilities for either system or
> put me in touch with someone who can by Thursday morning I would be very
> grateful.
