The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO, is looking for a
person to fill the position of ASSISTANT PREPARATOR FOR PACKING AND
STORAGE.
Job duties:  Assist in the design, fabrication, and construction of
packing containers for museum objects prepared for individual loans,
touring exhibitions, and special museum projects.  Assist in the
unpacking and packing of all special exhibitions, loan returns, and
all art-related packing projects.  Assist in storage activities of
the museum collection in-house and off-site, which include art
movement throughout the museum, relocation of objects after movement,
off-site transport, design and fabrication of storage housings, and
facilities maintenance.  Work with registration department to support
inventory and documentation needs, curatorial collection movement and
research, visiting scholar research, and other museum departments in
their storage project needs.  Assist in the general handling of art
objects throughout the museum.
Job requirements:  Prefer a BFA or BA in art history, or other
related filed.  Minimum of one year's experience as a preparator in a
museum, gallery, or commercial fine-art service company.  Knowledge
of basic hand and power tools.  Good mechanical abilities, mental and
physical dexterity, communication and organizational skills.
