Ms. Dotan, You can contact Dr. John Thomas, Emeritus, who is a volunteer for the New Mexico State University Museum. His address is: P. O. Box 30001, Dept. 3564 New Mexico State University Las Cruces, New Mexico 88003 (505) 646-3739 He and three others who are on the musuem outreach committe have put together traveling education kits entitled, "Museum-in-a-Bag Learning Kits: Indians of the American Southwest". The kit has a pre-service pack which includes an indepth evaluation - thus formalizing the educational process. The kits themselves have many archeaology "hands-on" activities. Also, we have a partnership of professionals who collaborate their efforts & network across New Mexico. One of the participants, a local archeaology firm is conducting SIMSE (Systemic Intitiaties in Science and Math Education) summer insitutes for educators across New Mexico. (SIMSE is sponsored by the National Science Foundation through grant process). This is the archeaology firms' second summer conducting a summer institute for educators, as last summer was so successfull. Lesson plans and curriculum materials which are focused around archeology in the Southwest have been developed which could be used for a base for educational kits. If you are interested in this aspect, please e-mail me at the address below. In the meantime, I encourage you to contact Dr. Thomas to get a copy of his "MUSEUM-IN-A-BAG".
