A resource perhaps unknown to many, in the Balkanized world of whatever it is that we all do, is Michael Trinkley's _Preservation Concerns in Construction and Remodeling of Libraries: Planning for Preservation_: Columbia, SC: "Prepared by Chicora Foundation, PO Box 8664, 861 Arbutus Drive, ZIP 29202, 1992"; for South Carolina State Library, 1500 Senate Street, PO Box 11469, ZIP 29202, (803)734.8666. Behind this idiosyncratic imprint lies a compact paperbound 95 pages dealing with almost every concern, from the site, through the building envelope (sorry; Internet editors are all lousy) and its materials, design, and construction and methods, thence through interior materials, design, and methods, to such operational matters as plant and food policies-and, yes, pest control-to security, fire prevention, etc. (BTW, I have no connection with any of the persons or entities responsible for this monograph.) We have found it of great usefulness in dealing with our new building. To the extent that museums, and libraries/archives share similar concerns, others may similarly find. Perhaps the list would be interested - it's a good topic. > Will Garrison > Collections Manager > Historic Deerfield, Inc. >
