The University of Alberta, Department of Museums and Collections Services invite
s applications
for a temporary full-time Technical Assistant to assist with moving the contents
 of the Print Study
Room to a new facility in the Fine Arts Building. This is a 3 month contract pos
ition.

Under supervision from the Special Projects Assistant, the incumbent will work w
ithin defined
museum standards to perform a variety of tasks including some or all of the foll
owing:

 -generating pre- and post-move shelf lists from a computerized database;
 -carrying out a physical inventory and condition report prior to and after the
move;
 -updating location and condition fields in a computerized database during all p
hases of the move;
 -creating special packing boxes for large, unmatted works;
 -creating and applying shelf labels in the new facility;
 -loading and unloading transport vehicle; and
 -unpacking and storing solander boxes and unmatted works.

Minimum qualifications include the completion of post-secondary course work in f
ine arts
and/or museum studies, previous experience within a museum environment, and some
 exposure to
computerized database management systems. Knowledge of museum documentation stan
dards
and/or the Oracle relational database management system is an asset.

The current wage for this temporary position is $10.25 per hour plus 4% vacation
 pay.
