The Cultural Resource Management Program at the University of Victoria is offering this two-day immersion course for museum professionals on February 9 & 10: THE VIRTUAL MUSEUM >From his vantage point, high atop the Canadian Museum of Civilization, George MacDonald has a fascinating perspective on the rapid evolution of the museum in the information age. In this two-day workshop, he shares his view of the profound changes and opportunities which accompany electronic information and communications technologies, and he explores with you the fundamental shifts in museum philosophy and practice which are occurring as virtual images, sites and programs take their place alongside more conventional ones. Whether you are caught up in the information revolution, or are still contemplating its arrival, you will find this a stimulating opportunity to learn about and debate the ways in which museums should be using these technologies to enhance and extend their collections and programming activities. Instructor: Dr. George MacDonald is the Director of the Canadian Museum of Civilization and a leader in both the use and debate about new communications technologies. Fee: $200 (Canadian funds) If you like to receive information and registration materials for this course, please send me an email: Joy Davis Cultural Resource Management Program University of Victoria Phone 604-721-8462 FAX 604-721-8774 email [log in to unmask]
