I am working with a collection of old looms and their documentation. In the paperwork is an inventory that mentions a "dog loom" and an "L.B. loom." I cannot for the life of me figure out what these could be. The looms are nothing unusual - just big old 19th c. barn looms. I am familiar with the expression "dog and pawl" to describe the ratchet brake system on looms, but this is such a common type of brake that I can't imagine why anyone would focus on this feature to distinguish a particular loom. Regarding the "L.B.," none of the looms had any initials or maker's marks that explain this entry. Any help out there? Lorinda Gayle [log in to unmask]
