The crazing probably had nothing to do with the ETOH--polyethylene is susceptible to UV embrittlement. It was probably that. ALL plastic is resistant for some time to ETOH, but none is as resistant as glass. The only really SAFE plastic we know about now for ETOH is high-density polyethylene. Arnold points out in his paper that PET is also a possibility, though oxygen permeance may be a problem. Someone needs to check it out. 2. Glass jars with polypropylene lids can be purchased from Kols Containers in Baltimore MD. I am home right now and don't have the address and phone handy. They also carry the liners. As far as I know, only one US company is making the inserts Arnold described (and yes, they are much better than the liners), and that is a local company here.
