The topic of museum's in Santa Barbara seems to be broadening so why not
give it a little more broadening.

There is a marine life museum on Stearns Warf in the harbor.
The Museum of Natural History is located just behind the Mission.
Just up the hill from the MNH is a botanical garden.
Located near the summit of San Marcos Pass on the road to Solvang is the
Chumash Painted Cave State Park.
There is a wonderful small historical museum with some chumash artifacts
in Carpenteria just south of Santa Barbara.
In Ventura, a little farther south, is the Mission, the Albinger Museum
(chumash, etc.), the historical society (all three of these are within a
block of the mission, and in the Channel Islands Harbor is the
headquarters of the Channel Islands National Park.
Just inland from Ventura is Ojai which has a small museum but some very
impressive chumash artifacts.
In Santa Paula is the Union Oil Museum.

This should give you a start.

P.S. Ventura and Santa Barbara are full of used bookstores and in Ojai is
Bart's Books, an experience worth the trip.
