The Wall Street Journal of Tuesday, July 21, 1994 contains an article that
may be of interest to those concerned with the international aspects of
repatriation.  Titled "Art World Shaken by Nations Seeking to Reclaim
Items", the article notes that the "US State Dept. is currently in
negotiations with the International Institute for the Unification of
Private Law on a far-reaching international agreement that will change the
rules of trade in cultural properties." According to the article, art
dealers and museum officials are concerned that the agreement will set the
stage for more repatriation claims.  The agreement is known as Unidroit
and will replace the 1970 UN Convention on international art trade.  The
article appears in Section C, p.1.
