Suggestions? Perhaps using exhibit development you already have underway, combine information from a course offered on campus, from a faculty member's research to highlight her or him, or to spotlight your collections RELEVANCE to the courses offered in this area of the campus' curriculum to the department/university's missions of honoring diversity, technology, ethics, and creativity and so on. You need the buy in of one instructor/professor in only one class to get started, but many people enjoy showing off the "material" of their life's research, perhaps showcasing the life and work of one of the more beloved individuals from your faculty will bring back alumni, sponsors, and even students with the curiosity they have. (I worked in the University of Oregon's Museum of Anthropology in the late 70s and all exhibits were undergoing significant changes in this way at this time.) I always wanted to to do a child's/teens exhibit where faculty in a school decide which dinosaur they like most or are most like..or mineral/flower/wild animal/or period of time and interview them accordingly incorporating the qualities of the material exhibited and the personality of the individual together in the display. A gimmick I know, but tongue in cheek is fun once in a while...and perhaps not formal enough for a college situation! Morgan Hicks University of Washington Art Institute of Seattle
