Why should the mission statement of a petrology collection be so significantly different from those of other collections? You are talking about a relatively broad, defining document rather tha a list of how-we-do-it procedures, right? Probably everyone on this list can send you sample mission statements which can be referred to as you draft your own, but, as a geological conservator, I am unaware of a separate standard for petrology collection mission statements per se. I recommend that you check out the article by Cato and Williams in the latest Collections Forum for a discussion of policies--it's great. I wil mail this to you by snail mail if you need a copy.
