The Freeport Arts Center, located in Freeport, Illinois is conducting a search for an executive director. The position description follows. Please respond to the agency listed at the bottom. JOB DESCRIPTION EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Freeport Arts, Center The Executive Director is the Arts Center executive officer and provides leadership and advocacy for all of the activities in support of the Mission Statement and Board of Director’s policies. Functioning in an integral partnership with the Board, the Director implements policies, initiates operational strategies and take leadership in all fund-raising activities. Other duties include overseeing the educational programs, plans outreach services, public programs and supervise all staff functions. The Director works in conjunction with the various Committee Chairpersons of the Board Committees to plan organize and conduct committee planned activities. The direct reporting relationship is to the President of the Board of Directors. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Serves as public spokesperson for the Arts Center public outreach programming, giving programs, responding to requests for information and communicating Arts Center activities and events to the membership and the general public. • Provides active marketing management in fund raising activities for membership, endowments and bequests, corporate membership, and actively seeks grants, bequests and other searches for public funds. • Supervises assigns and monitors work duties of staff. • Prepares, administers and monitors annual budget and ensures the timely production of the monthly financial reports. • Attends Board and Committee meetings, planning sessions, public forums and seminars as needed. • Prepares and coordinates publicity, scheduling events, reports and agendas. • Plans and supervises the installation of permanent and temporary exhibits. • Cultivates various sources for collection and acquisition. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS The Director may be required to adjust the workweek to include weekends, evenings and holidays as needed. Some information received by the Director may be of a sensitive or restricted nature and will require discretion and judgment to respect the confidentiality of such matters as is appropriate. Arts Center and programming operations will require tact, ingenuity, analytical skills and patience as well as precise verbal communications and good interpersonal relations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE The Executive Director position requires completion of a four-year education with a Bachelors Degree, preferably with an arts or museum management major. A Masters Degree or equivalency is recommended. A minimum of three years of administrative work experience and progressively responsible museum or non-profit operation experience is desired. This is a high energy position requiring active marketing, fundraising skills, multitasking ability, interpersonal skills and an innovative collaborative mind set.
