Hello all, I am one of those that have taken pictures of artwork in museums before. I asked one of the guards if it was okay, and she said that it was perfectly okay for private (ie, no intention of selling the prints of the picture) use. I took some of the pictures because of my interests in researching medieval and renaissance costuming. I was more interested in taking close ups of the blackwork (embroidery) or other details than in a full scale photo. I do print of these close ups, particularly of trim details and embroidery, so that I can accurately recreate it away from the computer screen. I doubt this is what comes to mind for most people when they are thinking of copyrights.
