I finally had the time to set the pictures up as a website:

That way no one has to worry about space being taken up in their account or 
viruses.

We think the box dates to the 1940s.  As far as I've been able to find out 
Whitman's started using the cross-stitch sampler design on their boxes 
around 1912.  However, I know of many companies  that have done special 
package for various events as collector's item, which is why we aren't 
dismissing the possibility that it could actually be a Whitman's box.

That's the main reason we question it being a Whitman's box and as far as we 
can tell the wood lining is original to the box.
