Researcher, part-time
Duties/Description: The Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity, located in Boston's historic Back Bay, seeks a part-time (24 hours/week, including some weekend hours) Researcher to join the Research Room team and provide one-on-one research assistance to visitors interested in the archival and reference collections of the Library. In the role of part-time Researcher, you also will be responsible for handling queries from all over the world, fulfilling informational needs of scholars, the general public and members and staff of The First Church of Christ, Scientist. You will utilize the Library's published and unpublished resources, including organizational records and collections relating to Mary Baker Eddy. You will also participate in training and development relating to the support of the archival and reference collections of the Library, including the development of instructional materials, displays, and programs.

Additional: Ideal candidate has a liberal arts background, a knowledge of 19th century American religious or women's history, and is familiar with or can quickly learn the biographical and other historical information on Mary Baker Eddy, her ideas and legacy, the history of The First Church of Christ, Scientist. 

Requirements: MLS or MA in History or equivalent education and experience. Experience conducting in-depth historical research and utilizing archival principles. Practical experience in a library or archives environment. Outstanding writing, editing, and communications skills. Excellent print and on-line reference skills. Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office Suite and familiarity with databases. Must be well organized and enjoy working with the public . Must be able to comfortably lift up to 40 lbs and use step ladders.
