City of Bowie Museums Division is a five-site municipal system operated by the city, with a strong local history focus at most of the sites. http://www.cityofbowie.org/comserv/museums.htm. Also, I am conducting a session at the CEO Roundtables at AAM in New Orleans about the unique structure and operation of local- and state- operated museums, given that they do not fall into the traditional definition of a museum with a non-profit board and staff. I have been looking at comparable city-operated museums and find there is a surprising number of medium to very small city and county institutions throughout the country - truly a large constituency that needs to be addressed for its special needs.
