Looking for an edge for getting that museum job? Northwestern University offers its Museum Studies Certificate Program at its Chicago campus. The Museum Studies program provides aspiring museum professionals with an understanding of the contemporary role of museums as reflected in all their aspects, from collections, architecture, and exhibits to finances, operations, and education programs. Classes meet one night a week for ten weeks. Classes for the summer session start this month. The summer course is: Museums and the Public Dimension This course focuses on the public dimension of museums, including audience development and fundraising. The evaluation of visitors, programs, and exhibits to help museums become more accountable is discussed. Ways for museums to generate revenues plus methods of soliciting donations and grant funding are included. Students participate in an instructor-led one-day field trip to Chicago museums on a weekend. Students present a report analyzing a related aspect of a Chicago museum.
