Elizabeth-

It sounds like your open house would be a great place to do a membership
campaign.

It seems like you could set something up relatively easy at the front desk
or at a table when they first enter the building. How about a small exhibit/
poster (entitled "Join Us" or something)with a list of benefits, mixed with
photos of the collections, etc.

Let everyone know as they come in that there is a special membership drive
today. AS a premium for joining that day, how about a discounted rate for
the membership, or an extra family pass to give to friends (since people
often have summer visitors). Or something inexpensive that you usually
sell- a walking tour booklet or keychains with your logo. Anything that
would make them decide to go ahead and sign up right there, as opposed to
take the membership brochure home and thinking it over.

These are just a few ideas off the top of my head. I'd be interested to hear
other ideas and also to hear abotu the results of your campaign.

Best of luck,
