Position Description (Please Post) Conservation Assessment Program Program Assistant (Half-Time/20 hours per week) Heritage Preservation serves as a national forum for conservation and preservation activities in the United States. It provides national leadership and coordination to promote and facilitate the conservation and preservation of the nation's heritage, including works of art, anthropological artifacts, documents, historic objects, architecture and natural science specimens. The Program Assistant will assist the Coordinator in the administration of the Conservation Assessment Program (CAP). CAP is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and provides grants for collections and facility assessments at institutions with small to mid-sized holdings on a non-competitive, first come first served basis. CAP duties include, but are not limited to, assistance with program inquiries, production and distribution of application materials, screening application eligibility and appropriateness for IMLS, award notification, production and distribution of CAPabilities (a semi-annual program newsletter), assessor matching and selection, mailings to museums and assessors, marketing CAP to museums, maintaining computer databases and paper files on institutions and assessors. Specifically, the Program Assistant will maintain current contact information for CAP assessors including their e-mail addresses and will send electronic alerts to them when necessary. The Program Assistant will maintain the CAP Marketing database with current information and track potential CAP marketing venues and activities. He/she will be responsible for providing CAP brochures and materials to workshops and conferences. In consultation with the CAP Coordinator and Director, Collections Care Programs, the Program Assistant will plan travel to state and regional association meetings. The Program Assistant may be asked to travel to promote the program. Qualifications: Position is ideal for a graduate student in art history, history, museum studies, or related fields.
