There was an article in Visitor Studies, the annual of VSA, in 1989 about
this very topic.  I can't remember the full findings, but I do remember that
visitors were much more likely to look at maps and engage with them if they
were on the floor rather than on the wall.  Now let's just hope art museums
don't adopt this tactic . . .
