The president of the board of a museum where I used to work initially kept the gifts and loans in his home of a family who made some very valuable donations to the museum. The reasons for this were due to the board member's close relationship with this family as well as lack of storage when the museum was first established. Well, the museum is further along in its development, with good storage facilites, collections database, and a collections policy in place. The board president has returned to the museum all but three of the objects from this family's donation. The other three items are mounted on the wall of his home, and he refuses to part with these items, despite diplomatic attempts to retrieve them, including letting the board member know the items are not covered by museum insurance if they're kept in his home. The director of the museum will not approach the board president to return these items because he is afraid of him. Now tell me, what would you do in this situation? The situation is unresolved at this time.
