We have a conservation lab, in a new building (1995). It is used as
curatorial workspace and for minor conservation treatment by staff and
volunteers. It has been used by a contract conservator for a week or
two at a time, working on collection items that need more care. It
seems to function well, although it has some flaws. It does have an
explosion proof fume hood, walk-in freezer, lots of counters &
cupboards, a rolling counter/cupboard, a darkroom (unused, unfurnished
except for a fancy sink, unskilled existing staff with a lack of time
anyway, but the space is ready to go), and clothes washer and dryer in
an adjacent space. Another adjacent space houses the computer and
collection records.
I would be happy to provide more information. I was here for part of
the design process, and during construction, which was an educational
experience.
