I am about to graduate from Kenyon College in May, and I plan on moving to
the D.C. area immediately thereafter. Because of having attended a liberal
arts college, I am a little apprehensive about the competition I will
encounter while searching for a job in the museum field. I am a studio art
major, and though I have experience working in the museum field from summer
jobs/internships, I haven't had any explicit "museum education." Is this
going to hurt me? I don't think grad school is going to be an option for me
right away. I was considering a career in fashion design but found that no
one even wants to look at a resume from someone who didn't go to design
school. I can't find any design-related jobs that don't require extensive
computer training (which I lack because of the philosophy behind a liberal
arts education). I'm starting to fear that I can't do anything I care about
doing with my degree. All I want is a job that will let me be around art
and give me enough of a salary that I can afford an apartment. If anybody
has any advice, I'd appreciate it very much.
Thanks,
Holly
