Spring 2000 Internships
at the Angel Orensanz Foundation for the Arts
(172 Norfolk Street, between Houston and Stanton Street)
In 1992, the historic Norfolk Street Synagogue, New York City’s oldest
surviving synagogue building, was transformed into the Orensanz Foundation,
a thriving center for the arts. This non-for-profit foundation offers two
exciting internships for Spring 2000:
GRAPHIC DESIGNER
Individual with graphic skills and/or background who can help in all the
levels of production of Artscape, a quarterly magazine of arts and culture.
We need a person to come about three times a week for about four to five
hours to plan the next issue, collect the copy, select the pictures, design
the pages, send it to the printer, distribute citywide and abroad (to art
fairs).
This person will work under the direction of Al Orensanz. We will pay for
carfare and lunch or other meal. His/her name will figure ostensibly in the
magazine. This position could become part time and permanent. The upcoming
issue will be a review of the cultural policies of the MET and the MOMA
and some sections about current events in the Foundation. We run only essay
type of articles with a sociological bent and deep analysis. No poetry or
reviews. We write about all the arts, design, architecture, performing arts.
This position is NEEDED immediately.
INTERNATIONAL INSTALLATION ART AWARD COORDINATOR
We need a person who can coordinate our III International Installation Art
Award.
We look for proposals that will use the facade of our building to display
images and/or sound about any topic through slides and/or video. The
deadline for entries is May 1st. We expect about 400 entries from all over
the world. This person must record all the entries, keep communication with
participants, assist Al Orensanz and his staff in the display of entries,
setting up a jury of NY art critics, prepare a catalog and an opening,
contacting the media, etc.
We will give prominent credit to the person helping us; carfare, meals.
Position can become part time permanent. We need this person IMMEDIATLY.
