Hi everyone

as a quick personal opinion....

i am currently volunteering at the local provincial museum and, although I
started primarily for resume/job experience reasons, I've found myself
enjoying it just for the sheer pleasure of working in there. Although I
am an archaeologist, I was unfamiliar with a lot of the prehistoric
archaeology within the Province (i do historical) and, as a result of
volunteering, have now had the opportunity to learn more about prehistory.
I've also met some great people, one of whom is fast beocming a friend.
I've also found that, as an MA student, it gives me the opportunity to
break away from my research and work and take some time for me while still
feeling productive.

I guess my point is that volunteering is more than just work experience,
contacts, etc and i genuinely love doing it. I also love the freedom of
it so that, when necessary, I can just call in without ramifications. It
is a great social network, and not just a professional network. The
opportunity to volunteer at a museum is a great enhancement to a
community, as long as the museum doesn't take advantage of the volunteer's
generosity.

so much for being quick:)
adrienne
