Ah Public History. I will be entering this fall into
the Public History major at Middle Tennesee State U.
My background is in historic preservation, so I have
slightly different bent on the subject, but one of my
first questions was not about the program but about
the community. I asked about the preservation ethic
there. I think Pittsburgh is a good place for
Archives as they take that rather seriously. I grew
up around there and the preservation ethic stinks alot
of the time, but the interest in history is high. Go
visit the Heinz History center. Fantastic.
Any particular reason why you are relocating there--on
purpose or just because. Either way its a great
choice. I have heard nothing but good things about
Duke (Duq whatever). My mother is taking graduate
classes in the Religious Ed program. Pittsburgh is a
great place to be anyways. Except they seem to be
having this growth problem right now that I dont
understand. They want to tear down perfectly good
buildings to build a "mall" type of thing in the
center. Dont ask me.
As for questions, I would welcome hearing them myself.
I need to ask a few myself. Only thing I would
caution about the Du Ques Ne program is that it is a
religious based college and still that pervades the
atmosphere a bit. And be ready for hills. Lots of
em. But at least you get to be near Kennywood
(traditional amusement park...the god of all amsuement
parks.)
Hope I helped some and hope to hear more from folks
Aaron
