Last weeek, because so many I know at work and on email lists have
difficulty with the concept of searching, I wrote a basic primer. It's
a 5-short email series comprising 3 main lessons.
I distributed my primer to a couple of friends, including one from
another mailing list and gave her and others who received it permission
to share where it might help. She then forwarded it to an
instructional specialist in Colorado who asked permission to put it on
line.
He edited it slightly (just trimming a tad), and the link is here:
http://204.98.1.2/isu/home/search.html
The primer is composed of three main sections:
1. Decide what you are looking for.
2. Determine where you want to look (and three different types of
search sites are offered).
3. Tips for stringing and refining your search.
The tools you need are probably located on that site. Try a couple of
different search engines and use the tips offered in the last section
as a way to refine your search.
Feel free to share the information where it might be of use. If any
would rather have the email version, I could post it instead.
