Hi everyone
I need some advice...
I am currently working on my MA in historical archaeology, my BA is in
History and Anthropology and I am also finsihing up a Certifcate through
the local University in Heritage Resource Management. I have some
volunteer experience, nothing long-term though, but it includes working in
an education programme and working in the collectiosn section of the
Provincial Museum. I am also going to be spending 4 h ours a week
starting next week with the archaeology conservator doing various things.
Anyway, there is a programme run through the museum assocation for a
Certificate in Basic Museum Studies. It covers some of the stuff i've
done for the Heritage Resource Management, such as collectiosn and
conservation, but it does have a few other courses. it is a week-long,
all day course. the cost is a bit high however, or at elast higher than i
can really afford at the moment. What i want to know is, as museum
professionals, do you think taking this course will help me in the job
market or am I okay with just the Heritage Certificate? I am also signed
up for a couple of seminars (travelling exhibit and costume mounting).
I know this is a bit long-winded, but I wanted to outline the situation.
Pelase feel free to write off-list if you wish.
thanks a bunch
adrienne
