POSITION OPENING
CURATOR OF EXHIBITS, Oregon Historical Society


The Oregon Historical Society is accepting applications for a Curator of
Exhibits.  The position is responsible for the development and execution of
the exhibition schedule for the OHS including scholarly research, writing
and intellectual guidance in planning, designing and overseeing temporary
and permanent exhibits.  It also includes participating in the development
of budgets, timetables, contracts, publicity, and educational materials and
programs relating to exhibits.  The Curator of Exhibits is responsible for
developing and maintaining relationships with institutions of higher
education relative to OHS’s instructional role in professional education,
certification, and degree programs.
The position requires a Ph.D. in History or American Studies with a
dissertation topic on the Western U.S. Candidates must also have a minimum
of 5 years experience in the development of exhibits at public history
institutional level and 3-5 years experience in project management.
Applicants must provide:  letter of application, current curriculum vita,
three letters of recommendation and transcript reflecting highest degree
awarded.  In the letter of application, candidates should discuss what they
consider to be the major themes in Pacific Northwest History, and any
exhibit proposals or projects they have worked on reflecting these themes.
Excellent benefits and salary for the most qualified candidate.  Screening
begins February 15, 2000; position open until filled (or recruitment
cancelled).  Salary will be commensurate to background and experience; the
Oregon Historical Society is an AA/EOE employer.
