Volunteer programs are also a very important way of linking the Museum to
the community.   The same population that provides volunteers probably also
supplies the Museum's membership and visitor base.
And, of course, not all volunteers are at the beginning of their careers --
many seniors find volunteering an important part of their life after
retirement.  Two of my favorite volunteers were over 80 and were so
dedicated that they even came in on snow days when younger museum staff
members stayed home.
