Hi Elizabeth -
The UBC Museum of Anthropology (Vancouver) has utilized an open / visible storage system since 1976, and contains over 14,000 objects. A lot of interesting work regarding issues of visible storage (representation, conservation, repatriation, what shouldn't be visible, hierarchical
accessibility, housing diverse collections that have grown over the past 25 years, etc) has been done there. Their web site is www.moa.ubc.ca and contains contact info.
Hope this was of some help!
Maria
