While the headers may have been forged, it appeared to
me that this spam (I saw the title in the list of
email and few that followed of like ilk and just
deleted) had an AOL address.
If yes, forward it to [log in to unmask] and complain
about the abuse of the service.
If other spam, send to abuse@ and then put down the
rest of the address (like for hotmail, it would be
[log in to unmask]).
Send the whole note, including the headers. I've
gotten lots of accounts closed that way, but of late,
they all use one of those bogus email system that
allows them to be anonymous and pretend to emanate
from someplace else, where it reroutes the mail
through so many channels that it's hard to trace.
Deleting is a wonderful habit to get into with spam.
Filters work, too. If you find a commonality to the
spam, filter it to your trash can or some other
folder.
Now, about our list masters: They give us a hell of a
lot of freedom to do and say what we do and say. They
provide this forum for free, and you didn't pay to get
here. It's a major inconvenience to have spam, but
it's no more the responsibility of the person who
helps us out by forwarding bounces than it is your
own.
Some states are making this kind of spam nuisance
illegal. If you don't have one, and it really bugs
you, work with your legislators to help us all solve
the problem.
One last thing since I'm on this bandbox and spam bugs
me too, you can always send it to SpamCop
http://spamcop.net/
One of the problems I've had, though, with so much of
my spam, is that it appears to be coming from (unless
the headers are forged) international markets who are
not going to be affected by our laws.
