You might want to check out the following publication:
The Accessible Museum: Model Programs of Accessibility for
Disabled and Older People. Washington DC: American
Association of Museums, 1992.
There is also a book called The Big Foot that discusses programs
for people with disabilities in British and American museums.
Unfortunately I don't have the author or publication information for that
book handy.
