While there are many good books and articles available that will give you
some insight into the legal aspects of deaccessioning, I would strongly
suggest that you solicit legal advice from your museum's legal counsel, not
from a listserv. Mistakes in this area are costly, in terms of both money
and public opinion. I would start by contacting your state attorney
general's office directly and ask to speak to the person in charge of
overseeing trusts. Then I would call a lawyer.
