You might want to check out the Canadian Heritage Information Network's
(CHIN's) "Artefacts Canada" website at
http://daryl.chin.gc.ca/Artefacts/e_MasterLayout.cgi?db=1
This is a site where museums across Canada contribute collections data to a
single database.  I don't know how many contributing institutions to CHIN
have "virtually their entire collection" on the Artefacts Canada database,
but CHIN might be able to answer that for you.  They can be contacted at
