We at the Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum are obviously in the business
of doing agricultural interpretation and we do have some interactive
exhibit
elements, both interior and exterior.
Interior:
A small saddle to ride -- with no interpretation attempted.
Ranch knot tying with some interpretation.
Mano and Matae corn grinding with interpretation.
An interactive touchscreen kiosk about Careers in Agriculture
An interactive touchscreen kiosk about Chile ( in process)
Audio oral histories - selective, not interactive
Childrens dress-up corner ( in process)
Cooking classes for all ages.
Exterior
Live calf bottle feeding, following the twice daily milking
demonstrations.
Animal petting and a childrens barnyard ( in process)
The first section of our permanent exhibit (opened Oct. 21,99) is titled
"Generations" and portrays the historic development of agriculture in
New Mexico through the stories of "Exemplars". That is, through the lives
of
people who lived the history of agricultural development. We are
conducting quarterly visitor surveys in an attempt to determine the
effectiveness of the exhibit.
Any interactive ideas that you come up with will be appreciated.

> Hello Listers,
> We are in the planning stage of a satellite museum that would focus on
> the agricultural history of our county. We would very much like to make
> the museum a fun learning experience, and wonder if any of you have seen
> or worked in museums that had interactive components dealing with
> agriculture. We've got both horse-drawn and motorized equipment that was
> used with most of the crops grown here, but want to have more than lined
> up equipment and some photographs. Any help would be greatly
> appreciated.
> Thank you!
